Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic (Motor Vehicle Operation)

Troubleshoot, disassemble, repair, and overhaul complex industrial refrigeration, chilled water, and multi-zone air conditioning systems to maintain critical facilities and equipment.

Diagnose, repair, and replace worn internal mechanical components, electrical systems, and valves on electric and diesel motor-driven air compressors and engines.

Operate heavy forklifts up to 10,000 pounds and motor vehicles up to 5 tons to load, transport, and stack equipment, parts, and supplies.

Process, label, and containerize hazardous waste and refrigerants generated during maintenance in accordance with state and federal environmental laws.

Comply with all established occupational safety and health regulations, report workplace hazards, and actively support accident prevention programs.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic (Motor Vehicle Operation) ~ without more than normal supervision.

I have the ability to perform common tasks including routine preventive maintenance, basic troubleshooting, and minor component replacement on standard air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration equipment.

I can assist with the disassembly and cleaning of pumps, evaporators, and compressors; replace worn drive belts, pulleys, and air filters; connect manifold gauges to check system operating pressures; perform basic leak testing using electronic detectors or soap solutions; assist with the recovery and charging of refrigerants under direct instruction; and operate light utility vehicles to move tools and parts.

I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: The mechanic handles and carries tools, equipment and testing devices weighing up to 45 pounds. Hoists, holders and pulleys are operated when removing units such as large compressors, condensers and chillers.

The mechanic makes repairs and installation from ladders, scaffolding and platforms where the parts of systems worked on are frequently in hard to reach places; therefore, stooping, stretching, bending and kneeling are frequently done for long periods.

WORKING CONDITIONS: The mechanic performs his/her work inside or outside and maybe subject to sudden temperature changes when working on equipment in warehouses, maintenance buildings, etc. Subject to cuts, burns electrical shocks, and respiratory ailments.

Exposure to repeated, prolonged or concentrated amounts of refrigerant gases may cause toxic effects to eyes, skin and internal organs.
