Engineer Equipment Mechanic Leader

Lead work crews by assigning tasks, communicating supervisor instructions, and setting the pace of work.

Coordinate work activities and ensure personnel have the necessary plans, materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.

Inspect work in progress and completed work to ensure compliance with established procedures, methods, quality standards, and deadlines.

Provide technical guidance, answers questions, demonstrates proper work methods, and identifies problems requiring supervisor assistance.

Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild a variety of floating and land-based heavy equipment and mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and power systems.

Determine equipment serviceability and repair requirements, including whether major assemblies require removal for specialized repair, and perform final adjustments, testing, and corrective repairs.

Use a variety of diagnostic equipment, precision measuring tools, power tools, and hand tools to identify equipment failures, perform repairs, and verify proper operation.

Ensure compliance with safety, housekeeping, and hazardous material/waste requirements, including proper handling, labeling, storage, disposal, spill response, and use of required protective equipment.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Engineer Equipment Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision.

To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience and/or show the ability to perform repair work on wheeled and track-laying heavy and special engineer equipment such as cranes, power shovels, bulldozers, road graders, rollers, heavy duty compressors, large generators, tractors, trucks, lifts, pumps, etc.; fabrication and machining of parts; and/or body work such as welding, soldering, and straightening. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision Physical Effort: Incumbent is required to stand, stoop and work in cramped positions, on top of and beneath equipment and on floating plant. Frequently lifts 15-25 pounds and occasionally lifts in excess of 50 pounds.

Working Conditions: Work is usually performed in a shop that is moderately heated, lighted, and ventilated. This occurs during the non-revetment season, usually from November through June of each year. During the revetment season (July through October) the work is performed at various shop areas along the banks of the Lower Mississippi River.

The floors are concrete which is fatigue producing from long periods of standing and stooping. Incumbent is exposed to disagreeable fumes from exhaust of engines, minor cuts and bruises from working in close places and hazards of moving equipment in and around the shop area.

The work is of a heavy, dirty nature and is performed in areas where the noise is disagreeable making it extremely difficult to talk and be able to hear and understand instructions, etc.
